It seems like everyone is living their best lives this Summer. I’m clapping on the sidelines and pumping my fists, hollering “Well Deserved!” because we all experienced for two years what it was like to NOT have this luxury. Whether its concerts, large family BBQ’s/pool parties, or birthday brunch celebrations, I’ve been making them all memorable. What Ive learned by “making it memorable” doesn’t mean spending all the Summer coins every other month on a plane. Staycations have become a popular option, especially now with airlines cancelling flights left and right and luggage seemingly disappearing within a blink of an eye. Sharing a few staycation ideas you can check off before Summer ends all while sticking within your budget.
1. Themed Charcuterie Board Party
This has been popping up on my social feed more and more and I have to say, I WANT TO DO THIS! Ive seen versions of charcuterie board parties where each person brings one of the following (but not limited to): fruit/chocolate, wings/vegetables, cupcakes/cookies, chips/dips, s’mores…and the list goes on and on. Add some beverages to wash these amazing snacks down and it calls for a great vibe for the evening. This is definitely on my list to do before summer ends or even as Fall rolls in!
2. (Virtual) Flower Arranging or Cooking Class
This would be a super cute idea as a “solo date” or inviting along your close gal friends who may love flowers or want to learn a new recipe to cook for their loved ones. When doing my own research during the lock down, I realized most classes offered were themed or seasonal related and allows you that one on one time with the instructor to ask as many questions as you like. Attending these types of classes allow you to keep repeating the craft learned over and over, perfecting as time goes on. Worth it!
3. Outdoor Movie Night, Anyone?
This idea has NO rules attached to it. Your space, your rules. Gather up your blankets, favorite snacks, drinks, outdoor lighting, and possible movie screen or projector and you’re good to go! If you don’t like the idea of sitting on the grass, pull up your patio furniture and snuggle up there. Make sure you have ample amount of bug spray and pick out the movie choice before hand. No one wants to go back and forth debating on what to watch the day of!
4. Luxe Picnic…Umm, Yasss!
Ive done this a number of times, so here is my quick hit list for a luxe picnic day!
- Wine, wine, WINE!
- Picnic Basket
- Metal bowl or ice bucket and bottle opener
- Plastic cutlery/plates
- Large blanket/cushion (umbrella optional in case you can’t find a shady area)
- Charcuterie/Grazing board
- Variety of cheese/crackers/fruit/dried meats/nuts
- Portable speakers/lanterns/bug spray
- Fresh flowers (for ambience)
And most importantly, bring the TEA! Girl chatter is always therapeutic. 🙂
5. Touring Your City/State
A few months ago, I did just that – discovered areas of my state I didn’t even know existed! Wine tours and waterfalls were the highlights I enjoyed on my excursion. It required not traveling far or spending a lot for an unforgettable trip. Research by using your best friend, Google, and/or ask around for recommendations from people that live close to the area you want to visit. It can be an eye-opener to hear a different perspective about an area that sometimes can be taken for granted. Such an eye-opener for me!
If you are looking to travel overseas, check out my blog post on tourist attractions in the Bahamas. Such a beautiful island – I will definitely visit again!
